Writer’s Block

I realized a month or so ago that I have not written in ages.  And it made me a little sad.  I usually write when my life is in turmoil, so maybe it’s a good sign?  But I really think it’s because I’ve been working so much that I’ve been mentally drained, and the poetry just wasn’t coming to me.  But recently that is starting to change.  Little bits and pieces are starting to pop into my mind.  Attending a show with live poetry readings helped as well.  I also intend to use this blog as more of an outlet for my thoughts and feelings as I do not really express them well to others in person.

So if you are reading this, I hope you don’t mind listening in whatever form my telling comes in.

Blessed be

Meditation, with a side of fries please!

I am a huge fan of Pandora Radio. I have my Billy Joel station for family card nights, Fiona Apple for when I feel eclectic, Joss Stone when I feel sassy, and Nina Simone when, well, when is it a wrong time for Nina?

My partner in life’s favorite is the Calm Meditation station. Now you might picture a willowy soul, in touch with with his inner Om, who runs around with his hands in prayer pose. In reality, he is a huge bear of a man who could probably dead lift a semi if need be. (Ok, maybe not a semi, but a guy did ask him tonight if he needed someone to bring in the Volkswagen from the parking lot so he could add it to the dead lift bar.)

Now what does any of this have to do with French Fries, you might ask? Well, since Mr. Go-Beast-or-Go-Home has a difficult time unwinding, we listen to the Meditation station as we drift off to sleep. Now I don’t know who picks the music for the station, but flutes and ocean waves are wonderfully relaxing…. Until that damned seagull starts screeching in the middle of things! The artist has obviously never walked on an ocean side boardwalk with a cup full of fries. There is nothing relaxing about getting dive bombed by a feathered kamikaze hell bent on taking your fries or pooping on your head… Or both!

I bid you sweet dreams, and for those of you celebrating tonight, chag Pesach sameach!

They Stand On a Wall

Zero Dark Thirty came out today in Redbox, and I reserved it right away. I know there is a lot of controversy over this movie, but I loved it. And if I ever find myself in the company of a CIA analyst, or a member of Seal Team 6, drinks are on me.

I grew up in the post Vietnam era, knowing that our service men & women weren’t always appreciated for doing their jobs. I have family in the service, I volunteer to help out reservists, and live in a military town. So I just want to say thank you to all those who serve our country. Those in the formal military, those who work for those “3 letter” government organizations, and those who have served in the past. I don’t think it can be said enough, and you will probably see it again in this blog.

To paraphrase another Hollywood movie, with one of my favorite lines “I like them because they stand on a wall. And they say nothing’s going to happen to you tonight, not on my watch.”

Decisions, decisions

So I’m sitting here going through the theme selection as I set up my blog… And have decided that selecting a theme is a lot like dress shopping for a major event.

You don’t want what everyone else will be wearing.

You try on a lot that don’t fit.

You eventually settle for something that doesn’t make you look too old or to young, and doesn’t make your but look (too) big.

It’s either that or make something yourself… And that doesn’t usually end well! So I have an Under the Sea theme. Which I find amusing since I don’t swim in the ocean (hello… Did you see Jaws???) and I only fish where I can stand on land. But my favorite color is aqua, so hence the selection.

Don’t get used to it, I’m likely to change it on a whim… Just like that dress for the party.
